Small Group Questions

Two Important Guidelines for Discussion:

  • Guideline #1 – Look inwardly & talk about yourself for every question. (Let’s not waste time talking about how “other people in the world” or “kids at my school” might react to God’s Word.)

  • Guideline #2 – Think hard about specific, measurable “action steps” that you can take from the sermon & discussion.

– In Genesis 3:5, the serpent (a.k.a., the devil; Satan) told Adam & Eve, “God knows that when you eat from [this forbidden tree] your eyes will be opened.”

– How was that an attack on Adam & Eve’s relationship with God?

– What are some ways Satan still creates “spiritual FOMO” (fear of missing out) today?

– What are some ways that you would admit that you have rebelled against God (disobeyed His loving instruction; not trust Him)?

– Is there anyone here who would be brave enough to admit to us, “My relationship with God is broken…and I am NOT okay”? Why? What’s going on?

– This will be helpful information for the weekend. How many of you have put faith in Jesus & been baptized (immersed) into Christ?

– Can someone read Mark 15:6-15 (NIV) for us?

– Can you guys retell that story of Barabbas & Jesus in your own words & explain what is happening?

– In what ways does Barabbas represent us?

Let’s all look at 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 together and have someone read it out loud…

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

– What is God saying to YOU through this passage (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)?

– When you allow yourself to grasp the costly price that Jesus paid for you — out of His infinite love — what should your natural response be? How should it affect your life?

Can someone read Mark 10:45 (NIV) for all of us?

Mark 10:45

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

– In your own words, tell us what you think Mark 10:45 means.

– What are some things you learned about Jesus’ death on the Cross from this sermon?

– How does it make you (personally) feel that Jesus “volunteered” to die for YOU (personally)?

– Is it hard for any of you to accept that he cares that much about you? Why?

– Based on what we’ve talked about this week, what is at least one “action step” that God is nudging you to take?
